VINEYARD
Fruit sourced from our 38 year old Wyjup vineyard growing 30 km south of Mt Barker in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The vines had their canes cut one month before harvest allowing the fruit to shrivel and concentrate sugars and flavours.
VINTAGE COMMENTS
A similar season to the 2008 vintage; though marginally cooler conditions and generally with lower yields. After a cool wet spring and early Summer, a dry February and March followed allowingflavoursto intensify in a relatively disease and pestilence free environment. Mild sunny days were the norm duringveraisonthough there were a few typically chilly days scattered throughout the growing season. The fruit ripened steadily but surely in ideal weather with vintage proper not starting till the first week in March. The Indian summer conditions throughout April provided the ideal weather to achieve this style of wine perfectly!
The canes were cut on the 18th March and the fruit was harvested on the 11th April, with the impressive figures of 32.8brix, 6.6 g/L acid and a pH of 3.08. The fruit was sound with a small amount of botrytis but largely shriveled.
TASTING NOTES
Colour:Bright golden straw with green hues.
Aroma:Vibrant and lifted with white flowers, vanilla bean, fresh lime & apple.
Palate:Deliciously round and poised, slippery and sexy, like a mouthful of fresh vanilla panna cotta smothered in lime syrup. The natural sweetness is carried by a firm and direct line of acidity providing focus with a non-cloying, clean sorbet like finish and a lasting impression of citrus fruit flavours.
