The 2018 James Halliday Wine Companion has been released and once again, Plantagenet has received a fantastic result, being reaffirmed as a 5 Red Star Winery, and receiving scores above 90 points for eight of our wines:
2015 House of Plantagenet Chardonnay: 95 points - Outstanding + Special Value
"A very impressive Plantagenet chardonnay, its seamless fusion of citrus, stone fruit and creamy, spicy oak laying the foundations for the long, lingering palate. The balance is such is such that it can be enjoyed at any time along the journey, starting now."
2014 House of Plantagenet Shiraz: 95 points - Outstanding + Special Value
"Clear crimson-purple; the fragrant red fruit and spice bouquet provides a perfect launch pad for the fresh, lively medium-bodied palate that follows. It is positively silky in its texture, and equally mouthwatering, as red and black cherries are joined by savoury/spicy tannins. The length of the wine builds and strengthens each time it is re-tasted."
2014 House of Plantagenet Cabernet Sauvignon: 95 points - Outstanding + Special Value
"Plantagenet is in a happy place at the moment. This deliciously juicy cassis-accented wine should melt the heart of the most dedicated pinot noir drinker; the palate is the epitome of elegance, the finish sustained by superfine tannins."
2016 House of Plantagenet Riesling: 92 points - Highly Recommended
2014 Three Lions Cabernet Merlot: 92 points - Highly Recommended + Special Value
2016 Three Lions Chardonnay: 91 points - Highly Recommended + Special Value
2014 Three Lions Shiraz: 91 points - Highly Recommended
2015 House of Plantagenet Riesling: 90 points - Highly Recommended
We are very proud of our 2012 Plantagenet Cabernet Sauvignon so it's great to see it being recognised for its wonderful characteristics and cellaring potential.
"Finely crafted, this very elegant young cabernet of medium to full body has the balance and underlying structure to age gracefully. Lightly minty and herbal, its bright, layered fragrance of cassis, small red berries and cedar/vanilla oak reveals nuances of chocolate and a hint of pine needle that should disappear over time. Supported by a pliant spine of dusty, crunchy tannin, it’s long and evenly measured, building richness and depth of fruit towards its persistent finish. A classical style".
