2019 James Halliday Wine Companion

The 2019 James Halliday Wine Companion has been released and once again, Plantagenet has received a fantastic result, being reaffirmed as a 5 Red Star Winery, and receiving scores above 90 points for eight of our wines:

2017 House of Plantagenet 'Angevin Riesling: 95 points - Outstanding

Takes a little time to get into its stride, but there's no stopping it once it gets going, the palate with mouthwatering lemon citrus fruit embraced by minerally acidity, the finish long and convincing

2017 Three Lions Riesling: 94 points - Outstanding

"Out of the blocks fractionally more quickly than its Angevin sibling, the floral bouquet first up, the palate round, letting its waist expand with lemon and lime fruit.."

2013 Aged Release Plantagenet Riesling: 96 points - Outstanding

"The wine looks 5 years young, not old. It speaks volumes about the development potential of the Plantagenet Rieslings. The interplay between fruit and acidity is much the same as before other than the increased body and acidity. This will enter the plateau of perfection around '23 and go on from there"

2017 House of Plantagenet 'York' Chardonnay: 94 points - Outstanding

"Fermented and matured for 8 months in French oak (30% new). An altogether elegant wine, employing just the right amount of new oak. Pink grapefruit and white peach occupy the same amount of ground, with no sign of one yielding to the other. The oak is well handled, the length good."

2015 House of Plantagenet 'Lancaster' Shiraz: 94 points - Outstanding

"45+yo vines, whole berries fermented with cultured yeast in open and Potter fermenters, 14 days on skins, matured for 18 months in French oak (40% new). In very different style to its Three Lions sibling, slightly lighter colour, lower alcohol, lighter-bodied, more elegant, more aromatic. It also carries its new French oak well, with total integration just around the corner."

2013 Plantagenet Shiraz: 95 points - Outstanding

"An infusion of ultra-fragrant spice, pepper and licorice opens proceedings, the vibrant red cherry and blood plum fruit unfazed and in no way threatened by tannins or French oak, either. Classic cool climate style"

2017 Three Lions Sauvignon Blanc 91 points - Highly Recommended

2015 Three Lions Shiraz: 90 points - Highly Recommended

2015 House of Plantagenet 'Normand' Pinot Noir: 92 points - Highly Recommended
