Plantagenet Wines
Plantagenet Wines was the First Winery in the Great Southern wine growing region of Western Australia

From small beginnings Plantagenet Wines is now one of the most respected Western Australian wineries consistently producing quality wines for nearly 30 years. Fruit for many of the wines is sourced from the oldest vineyards in the region.

The winery is located in the heart of Mt Barker township which is 350kms south of the Western Australian capital of Perth.

The vineyards are located to the south and west of the township. The climate is considered cool to moderate with rainfall around 700ml annually.

A range of wines are produced over several brands. Varieties include Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and various blends.

After many trials and tribulations, including sheep eating the vines on several occasions, the first grapes were picked in 1974. The resultant wines were the first Plantagenet Shiraz and Cabernet. The fruit was picked at 11° Baume. The Shiraz was tight and lean and showed the distinctive spiciness of the region, the Cabernet was robust.
