Our Cellar Door

Built from handmade mud bricks and local timbers, Plantagenet Wines’ cellar door with its predominantly native garden is a welcome break for visitors to the Great Southern wine region.

Here you can taste and purchase our wines and chat to our well informed staff.

We are situated on the main highway at Mount Barker 350 km south of Western Australia’s capital city Perth and approximately 50 km north of the port city of Albany.

The site was originally home to an apple packing shed, but with the demise of the local apple industry, Plantangent Wines’ founder Tony Smith purchased the property in 1975. For many years the old wooden building was home to both the winery and the cellar door with a curtain dividing the two. When visitors arrived, Tony would pop out from behind the curtain to offer tastings at the tiny cellar door area.

In the early 90’s it was decided to expand, and the current winery and mud brick cellar door were built. More recently the grounds were re-landscaped and a native garden planted.

Should you take the opportunity to visit, you’ll find the majority of our wines available for tasting.
